About Dr Sandeep

Dr Sandeep Kumar is an Ex Professor of Surgery, King George’s Medical University, Lucknow and Founder Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal. He is an alumnus of University of Allahabad with 1st position in MBBS and Masters in Surgery from MLN Medical College, Prayagraj. Thereafter, did FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and PhD from the University of Cardiff, Wales. He was awarded Rockefeller INCLEN fellowship in 1990 and did a 2nd Masters degree in Clinical Epidemiology and Research Methodology from Newcastle, Australia.

He was a visiting fellow in Freiberg-Germany, Sloan Kettering Cancer Institute-New York and University of New South Wales-Australia. He is the past Editor, Secretary and President of the Indian Association of Surgical Oncology. Chairman of Research Grants Committee, IndiaClen. He was the Scientific Advisor and Research Grants Review Group member of ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research). He has conducted over 10 major Research Projects in Cancer Biology and Epidemiology. He has been the team leader in a collaborative research with the University of Minnesota. He worked extensively at the famous Cardiff Breast Clinic. He has several research papers in the field of biology of benign and malignant breast disease that are widely quoted and for these he received National Medical Sciences Academy of India award. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Indian Journal of Surgery./p>

He is a renowned surgeon, a breast specialist and a surgical oncologist. He has published over 150 research papers with high impact and Research Gate scores and has contributed chapters in several Textbooks. A prolific speaker he has been invited to speak in several Universities and Colleges in India and abroad. The important works done by Prof Sandeep Kumar are epidemiological studies in primary and secondary prevention of oral cancer and major survey on intention to quit tobacco habits around Lucknow. He undertook operational research on Trauma Care and has published 4 papers in this area. His work on suturing techniques and abdominal wall closure are well acknowledged. He undertakes health related social work in Accident and Emergency Care and Prevention, cancer prevention and tobacco habit and care of elderly. He helped establish a Hospice and a free School for poor children. He has a multifarious personality and on the lighter side has written a humorous book – ‘Raag Georgian’. His other books are: 51 Secretes of getting Medical Treatment and Half Doctor that are recently published. He has started a YouTube channel called ‘Swasthya ki Pathshala’
